Prosperous Music Festival 2016 Chairman’s Report

Prosperous Music Festival took place over the weekend of the 19th, 20th and 21st of August. The festival was set out in 6 venues over the weekend. The committee that oversaw the organization and the running of the event are as follows:

Chairman - Darren Brereton
Vice Chairman - Ciaran Healy
Secretary - Ann Crofts
Treasurer - David Crofts
Other Committee Members - Keith Byrne, Robbie Fallon, Claire Ward and Kim Mullahey.

This is the 4th music festival that has been held in Prosperous in the past 5 years. There was music in the 3 pub venues all weekend featuring lots of amazingly talented local people, young and old. They all performed for the huge crowds of people who came out to the festival and it was great for local people to experience and hear local artists. At the end of each venue there were top class tribute bands such as Bon Jovi, Johnny Cash, Foo Fighters, Bruce Springsteen and Red Hot Chili Peppers tribute bands which were all well received by the public.

On the Saturday night there was the addition of a Classical Music event in the historical Downing’s House. This featured some of the area’s most talented pianists and soprano singers. There was a wine reception and the show lasted for 2 hours. All tickets for this show were free of charge and were all taken by members of the village. I would like to express my thanks to Irene Lito for organizing and running this event.

On the Sunday there was the addition of a Family Fun Day in St. Farnan’s PP’s sports field. This featured lot’s of children’s activities and games and a stage set up in the field for the younger children of the area to perform for their parents and friends. This was greatly received by the public and in my own opinion think something similar in future festival events would be good to see continue as it brought an extra-special element to the weekend and was one of the big talking points amongst the community post - festival. I would like to thank Principal Eddie Collins for his help and enthusiasm in getting us the use of the field for the weekend and thank you to the Board of Management for their co-operation also.

Also on the Sunday there was the Church Concert. There were 5 acts performing a range of different types of contemporary music. It is fantastic to be able to have these different venues where we can host musical events for so many different tastes. Again this was another free event as is everything at the PMF weekend.

The costs of these events are covered by fundraising by the committee and also donations from local businesses. A big part of our funding comes from Kildare County Council and Drehid and I would like to express my thanks for their help financially and hopefully they will continue to support PMF in future years.

Public safety is a huge concern of ours. Our team of stewards, security and other volunteers made sure that everywhere is the village was constantly monitored at all times and that any incidents were to be reported immediately to the head of security who was John McGrath. I want to express my thanks to John for his planning and man management which kept Prosperous safe all weekend during the event.

To all of our friends and family who gave up their time to help us manage the event over the weekend and also at various fundraising events throughout 2016… You are all complete legends!

A huge thanks to all the local media who gave us great coverage and support throughout the planning and the weekend itself for spreading the word of PMF across Leinster!

Lastly I want to acknowledge the local Gardaí who were a pleasure to deal with and kept as much a presence around our events as their resources allowed them. They also allowed us to borrow their barriers for the weekend too. We sent them a plan and logistics the week before the festival and they were impressed with the level of detail that was involved in our planning structures.

I am delighted to be able to say that we ran a huge scale event over 3 days and nights and it all went off without any incident whatsoever. This was all because of the huge amount of planning and man hours put into organizing and running the event as a solid crew.

Again a big thank you to all our bands, sponsors and all who have supported the festival in the past!

***No Prosperous Music Festival this year?***

The Prosperous Music Festival AGM was scheduled for last night. Unfortunately the only people who attended were last years committee and one other person. Because of other commitments this year a lot of last years committee had to stand down for this year, including myself Darren Brereton. It is awfully sad to think that there doesn't seem to be people (except for the usual few) interested in getting involved in what has been a growing event in the community since 2011. We don't want to see the festival not happen and know the people of Prosperous don't after so much work, trial and error and trying our best to keep all tastes happy, bringing back the family day, etc, so we are proposing that anyone who would still like to get involved and form a committee and keep it going should get in contact with one of the 2016 crew or PM us here and we will hold an EGM in at the end of the month. The treasurers report last night stated we had just shy of €3500 in the bank which is a great start to any year and the best financial start to date. The information is there and plenty of us willing to give tips, advice or any help. We are putting it out there until the 25th of January and if there isn't enough interest, then we will hold an EGM in the Autumn of this year and see what happens then. In the meantime 3 trustees have been appointed to foster the organization who are David Crofts, Claire Ward and myself Darren Brereton. So please share and let's see can Prosperous keep this going for another year. ... See MoreSee Less
